Cancer of penis

Cancer of penis is a relatively infrequent disease. Incidence in Europe amounts to 0.5-1% of malignant diseases in men. The incidence of the cancer of penis is different in different geographic regions. In some countries of Asia, Africa and South America, the cancer of penis makes up 10-20% of all cancer cases in men. The incidence depends on the hygienic practices of the population. The risk factors include phimosis with retention of smegma and chronic balanitis, insufficient hygiene and nicotine abuse. Another risk factors include infections caused by high-risk human papillomavirus HPV especially the types 16 and 18 and infections caused by cytomegalovirus.

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) may support a positive response of the organism to HPV infections, contributing to suppression of the activity of HPV infection specific proteins. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) helps to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and supports the programmed death of cancer and HPV altered cells.
